Armed Robbery Call Ends in an Officer-Involved Shooting

On June 26, 2022, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to an armed robbery in progress at a Food Lion on Tuckaseegee Road. Nearby, they located a man matching the suspect's description — 46-year-old Kevin Boston. When officers approached, Boston pulled a firearm and refused to drop it. Officers, perceiving an imminent threat, opened fire. Boston fired as well, striking CMPD patrol vehicles. He was struck by gunfire and later pronounced deceased at the hospital. This is the full body-worn camera footage of the response — multiple officers, different starting points, all converging on the same few blocks, followed by the scene lockdown, medical response, and hours of evidence processing that follow every officer-involved shooting in Charlotte. The most important part of this story isn't the shooting. It's what CMPD did almost a year later: when this footage was finally released, the department corrected its own initial statement. They had said Boston fired first.
