Where Do We Go from Here? is a 1945 romantic musical comedy-fantasy film directed by Gregory Ratoff and starring Fred MacMurray, Joan Leslie, June Haver, Gene Sheldon, Anthony Quinn and Fortunio Bonanova. It was produced by Twentieth Century-Fox. Joan Leslie's singing voice was dubbed by Sally Sweetland. Plot: Where Do We Go from Here? is a colorful romantic musical comedy-fantasy directed by Gregory Ratoff. The story follows Bill Morgan (Fred MacMurray), a patriotic young American who desperately wants to serve in World War II but is rejected by the military as 4-F. Bill discovers a mysterious bottle containing Ali, a mischievous genie (Gene Sheldon), and wishes to join the Army. Unfortunately, the genie misunderstands his wish and sends Bill backward through American history. He becomes a soldier in George Washington's Continental Army, then travels aboard Christopher Columbus's ship, and later finds himself in colonial New Amsterdam. Each adventure creates increasingly comic complications as Bill tries to find his way back to his own time. The film combines romance, fantasy, history, slapstick comedy and elaborate musical numbers. The songs feature music by Kurt Weill and lyrics by Ira Gershwin, making the movie especially notable as Weill's only musical written directly for the screen.
