You Were Four When I Walked In | I Stayed – Caleb Ash (Official Lyric Video)

You were four years old when I walked in. I never asked you to call me dad. One day you just did. Caleb Ash — "I Stayed" · Track 3 of THE SHAPE OF HOME, a cinematic folk rock EP about family and the people who stay. This song is a letter to my son. I came into his life when he was about four, when I met his mom. I always told him he didn't have to call me Dad unless he was comfortable with it. One day he started, and it's been that way ever since. He's a momma's boy, like most boys are, but he brings me the things he can't take to her. And when I'm the one having a hard time, he somehow always knows. He shows up out of nowhere and says, "Hey Dad, I think you could use a hug." I grew up with a stepdad too, and it went the opposite way. That story is in "The Shape." I wrote this so my son never has to wonder where he stands. He's my son. He always has been. And I'm not going anywhere. ◀ Previously: Track 02, "Already Enough"    • What I Want My Daughter to Remember | Alre...   ▶ Next: Track 04, "Same Moon"    • A Love Letter to My Wife | Same Moon – Cal...   ⏮ New here?
