Steph Curry Plays Basketball… Brandon Williams STEALS SHOW! Warriors-Clippers 104-101

STEPH CURRY PLAYED BASKETBALL AGAIN. 😂🏀 But Brandon Williams may have stolen the show. The Warriors opened their preseason in Hawaii with a 104-101 loss to the LA Clippers, and there was a LOT to unpack from our first real look at Golden State’s new roster and five-out offense. Brandon was my biggest takeaway: 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, only one turnover and a team-best +12. His speed immediately changed the game, whether he was going 94 feet, finishing with either hand, creating off the dribble or pressuring the ball defensively. My halftime reaction was pretty simple: “Play Brandon Williams more than four damn minutes.” By the third quarter, we had reached: “Homeless man’s Kyrie Irving.” 😂 High praise? Maybe. But the Warriors need somebody in that second unit who can actually bend a defense, and Brandon kept showing flashes of exactly that. Charles Bassey was my secret player of the game. He was everywhere — offensive rebounds, tap-outs, putbacks, activity around the rim and some surprisingly good individual defense. By the fourth quarter, I gave him the game ball. Other big takeaways: 🏀 Steph Curry finally got back on the floor — but the turnovers immediately brought back some familiar frustrations. Yes, I got mad when Steph literally threw the ball to the wrong team. Twice. 😂 🔥 Yaxel Lendeborg flashed immediately, hitting an early three, rebounding, defending Rui Hachimura and showing some playmaking within the new five-out system. 🤔 I went on a Brandin Podziemski diatribe. I’m still willing to pay him, but I want him to find a clearer identity as a player. My homework assignment for Podz: go watch Magic Johnson. 👀 De’Anthony Melton gave me some déjà vu from last season. 💪 Graham Ike went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and had some productive moments, but you can also see how long the developmental road can be for a young center. 🧹 Bassey just kept cleaning everything up. 🔥 Rui Hachimura came out firing and finished with 21 points. 😳 And Clippers rookie Keaton Waggler was smooth all night, then hit the late go-ahead shot. My completely reasonable preseason reaction: GIVE HIM THE KEYS. 😂 The Warriors made it all the way back and briefly took the lead late before falling 104-101. Graham Ike even got a desperation three at the buzzer that would have tied it. Plenty to clean up — especially the turnovers — but also plenty of encouraging things to take from the first preseason game.
