Woe unto You Official Release The outward appearance looked righteous. But the heart was far from God. And Jesus spoke the truth. Woe unto You continues this Acoustic Gospel Story Series through the Book of Matthew, bringing the life and teachings of Jesus to life through heartfelt acoustic melodies, honest storytelling and music inspired by God’s Word. Inspired by Matthew chapter 23, this song follows Jesus as He warns the multitudes and His disciples about the scribes and Pharisees, who sit in Moses’ seat but fail to practice what they preach. Jesus exposes their love of titles, places of honor and outward appearances while their hearts remain burdened with hypocrisy and pride. Through a series of powerful warnings, Jesus declares “Woe unto you” to those who shut up the kingdom of heaven, neglect the weightier matters of the law, cleanse only the outside of the cup and appear righteous outwardly while being filled with hypocrisy and iniquity within. Yet beneath these strong words is a call toward truth, righteousness, mercy and a heart that truly belongs to God. The masks were removed. The hearts were revealed. And Jesus called them back to truth. 📖 Biblical storytelling rooted in Scripture. 🎸 Acoustic Gospel storytelling inspired by every chapter of Matthew. ✨ Themes of truth, humility, righteousness, mercy, obedience and the danger of hypocrisy. Lyrics: Verse 1 Jesus spoke unto the people, And the disciples gathered near: “The scribes and Pharisees Sit in Moses’ seat here. So hear the words they teach you, But their works you should not follow. They speak of heavy burdens, But they will not lift the load. They bind them on the shoulders Of the people standing there, But they will not move one finger To help them bear the care. They love the highest places, The greetings in the street, The titles and the honors, The places at the feast.” Verse 2 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites, blind in heart! You shut the door of heaven And keep the people out. You will not enter in yourselves, Nor let the seekers through. You travel land and sea to gain one— Then make him twice like you. Woe unto you, blind guides, Who swear by gold and shrine, Who strain at little matters And leave the greater behind.” Woe unto you… Woe unto you… Clean the heart before the hands, Let mercy lead you through. Woe unto you… Woe unto you… What looks righteous to the world May not be righteous in you. Verse 3 “You tithe the smallest herbs you grow, Mint, anise, every seed, But leave the weightier matters— Judgment, mercy, faith indeed. These you ought to practice, Without leaving those undone. Blind guides, you strain a gnat, Yet swallow down a camel whole. You cleanse the outside of the cup, So beautiful to see, But inside there is greed and lust— The vessel’s full of thee.” Verse 4 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, You hypocrites within! You are like whitewashed graves outside, But death is found within. You look so righteous outwardly, But underneath the show Are hypocrisy and wickedness— Things only God can know. You build the tombs of prophets And decorate their graves, Saying, ‘If we’d lived before them, We would never act that way.’ Yet by your own words you testify Against the ones before— The same hard heart that killed the prophets Still stands behind your door.” O Jerusalem… Jerusalem… You who kill the prophets, And stone the ones God sends… How often would I gather you, As a hen beneath her wings Gathers all her little ones… But you would not. “Behold, your house is left to you Desolate today. For I say unto you, You shall not see Me again Until you say…” Blessed is He That cometh in the name of the Lord. Blessed is He That cometh in the name of the Lord. O Jerusalem… Jerusalem… Woe unto you… 🔥 If this song speaks to you, be sure to like, comment and subscribe for more original music inspired by God’s Word. #WoeUntoYou #BookOfMatthew #Matthew23 #ChristianMusic #AcousticGospel #ScriptureInspired #BiblicalStorytelling #OriginalMusic #JesusChrist
