The origin of this dance is traced to a time where the Dagomba people of Ghana discovered that they were fighting a war with their own people after the Fadanguruma tribe in Burkina Faso called on them to help to them fight their enemies. The chief-warrior of the Dagomba people wanting to end the war between the two families composed a dance rhythm. That is, striking their swards facing each other in a rhythmical pattern while turning side by side in a manner that they do not hurt each other.
