Animals were sent to space before humans. They were the real pioneers of space. These animals opened the window for humans to the space. Before sending humans to space, there were many debates going on about the hazardous environments of space that could harm humans. When the world were debating about these issues, American and Soviet Union scientists were conducting experiments on poor animals. These experiments helped scientists to understand the consequences of hazardous conditions of space and what harm could possibly be made by space to human bodies. With those information, scientists were able to create safe space shuttles for humans to travel through space. Many animals were tested before humans, including monkeys, dogs, chimpanzees, rabbits, rats, tortoise, goats, hens, and so on! Most of them didn't survived the experiments. One of the most famous dog was Laika. Laika became the first ever animal to orbit earth. Sadly, she didn't make it back to earth alive! Another world famous chimpanzee is Ham the space chimp. Experiment with Ham made scientists realize many things about space travel. Luckily, he survived the experiment and lived a normal life after the space travel.
