(31 Aug 1985) GS CAS NIGERIA: Major-General Ibrahim Babingida has been sworn in 04098501 as President following a bloodless coup which toppled the 1"VT+BVU regime of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari. This constitutes Nigeria's sixth coup since independence from Britain in 1960. Commander Ebitu Ukiwe will be the new Army Chief of Staff, and Major General Abacha will be Second-in-Command of the government. Brigadier General Joshua Dogonyaro has also been appointed to the new ruling body, the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC).
