Lonach Highlanders march through Strathdon in the Cairngorms, Scotland during 2023 Lonach Gathering

The Lonach Highlanders marching from Bellabeg through Strathdon in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, during the 2023 Lonach Gathering and Highland Games. This was on Saturday 26th August 2023, as the Lonach Highlanders marched outwards, stopping at local properties for a celebratory drink, as they have for several generations. For more from this event and across Scotland see our page ‪@BraemarMedia‬ The march is led by retired Policeman James Wilson Mitchell on his bicycle, then the 3 Lonach Highlanders with their Lochaber axes, then the Drum Majors and Lonach Pipe band, followed by Sir James Forbes, Patron of the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society. The Highlanders, with their ceremonial Swords, Lochaber axes and eight-foot long pikes, are members of Clan Forbes, Gordon and Wallace. Following were representatives of the Kindred Gatherings (Braemar, Ballater & Aboyne) who were invited to join the march on their 200th anniversary, and at the rear is Socks the Lonach horse, ready to carry any weary Highlanders.
