Day TWO of our Cairns to Cape York adventure...Lions Den to Kalpowar Crossing via the legendary Starke Track! Welcome back to another episode of Untamed Off-Road. Leigh is on the Ultimate Cape Escape dirt bike tour from Cairns to the Tip of Cape York with Dan, Gussy, Marcus and an absolute bunch of legends. Day 2 kicks off at the iconic Lions Den Hotel, we check out the insane 2023 Jasper flood high-water marks, nearly 1.6m of rain in 5 days right up to the roof... then fuel up at Cooktown before hitting Battlecamp Road, better known as the Starke Track. It's fast dirt, deep dust, rough stretches and remote country for 300-odd k's. We find a hidden waterfall where the fresh water meets the salt water near the coast, help out an 87-year-old having a crack in his 4WD after snapping his winch cable, push through the dusty 80km of Starke, then splash through the weir crossing into camp at Kalpowar Crossing in Lakefield National Park. No pillow, plenty of snorers cutting down trees overnight, one near-miss that nearly sent Leigh to hospital, and spag bol around the fire to finish... how good is that?
