Eight ball is all about solving problems. But sometimes, the biggest mistake is making the runout more complicated than it needs to be.

🎥 Sensei Nate's Video Review is officially live. I've launched my new one-on-one video review service, where I break down your game using the ADAPT framework, create an annotated video review and personalized action plan, then go over it with you one-on-one. This is not a video lesson - it's MUCH more. Participants are praising it for the attention to detail and clarity it brings their game other instructors simply can't see the same way.

In this video, I'm playing bar box eight ball and forcing myself to run out as often as possible. I'll break down my decisions, explain the patterns I'm looking for, and point out the mistakes along the way.
I'm primarily a nine-ball and ten-ball player, so this is also an opportunity for me to get more comfortable with bar box eight ball and prepare for more tournaments.
I even get close to putting together a four-pack... well, almost. The run was there, but I overhit and overcut the final breakout shot, leaving myself hooked on the 8-ball. That's pool sometimes!
Follow along, grab a pen and paper, and try to solve the racks with me. There's plenty to learn from both the good decisions and the mistakes!
You'll learn:
•Why the pop break can help keep the cue ball safe from common scratches
•How to choose between solids and stripes based on the layout
•Why solving problem balls early makes eight ball runouts easier
•Why keeping the cue ball near the center of the table gives you more options
•How to choose key balls without overplanning the entire rack
•How to simplify cue-ball routes and avoid unnecessary movement
•Why table conditions should influence your speed and spin
•How cue-ball control and pattern play work together
The big takeaway? Solve the problem balls, create space, and simplify the runout.
You don't always need to plan every single shot in advance. You need to understand the problems on the table, recognize your options, and give yourself the best chance to keep moving forward.
