🔴 LIVE: Is the establishment's proposed division of Pakistan into new provinces/administrative units losing its central justification?
The stated argument for creating smaller administrative units has been devolution of power. But Sindh's proposed Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 raises a fundamental question:
If genuine power can be transferred directly to elected local governments, why divide the provinces at all?
Tonight we examine the proposed Sindh legislation, empowered Mayors and UC Chairmen, local policing coordination, Maryam Nawaz's position in Punjab, and the increasingly contentious debate surrounding Karachi and Sindh.
But there is another question almost nobody is asking:
If Pakistan's administrative map is being reconsidered, what happens to military cantonments?
Why should devolution apply only to civilian Pakistan?
We examine open-source records concerning:
📌 Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill 2026
📌 Proposed devolution to elected local representatives
📌 New provinces/administrative-units debate
📌 Karachi and Sindh's constitutional history
📌 Karachi's multiple cantonments
📌 Rawalpindi & Chaklala cantonments
📌 Lahore & Walton cantonments
📌 Military land and commercial activity
📌 Ministry of Defence provisions concerning surplus military land
📌 Open auctions of military/cantonment land
📌 Historical requests for provincial/state land
📌 The case for a National Cantonment & Military Land Audit
📌 Whether surplus non-operational military land should help reduce Pakistan's debt
THE BIG QUESTION:
If the objective really is devolution, should Pakistan empower its existing local governments rather than divide its provinces?
And if administrative boundaries are being reconsidered—
SHOULD CANTONMENT BOUNDARIES ALSO BE PUT ON THE TABLE?
Join the debate LIVE.
⚠️ Operational military installations and genuine national-security requirements are not being proposed for disposal. The discussion concerns democratic governance, transparency, commercial activity and surplus/non-operational state land.
