"We didn't hear it... but the cameras did."
In this investigation, the Derelict History team steps inside the massive, 66,000-square-foot Randolph County Asylum in Winchester, Indiana. Built in 1899, this sprawling brick fortress was designed to house the indigent and the infirm. With over a century of hardship baked into its walls, it remains one of the most imposing derelict structures in the Midwest.
As a team committed to a grounded, evidence-based approach, we documented a night that challenged our skepticism.
THE ANOMALIES
During our trek through this massive facility, we captured two of the most significant pieces of evidence in our channel's history:
THE MULTI-FLOOR IMPACT: A massive, metallic "bang" so powerful it was captured simultaneously on our audio recorders across three different floors. In a building this size, a sound that travels through the entire 66,000 sq ft structure demands an explanation—and it wasn't us.
THE WHISTLE RESPONSE: While the team was descending the main staircase, our guest investigator let out a whistle. We heard nothing with our own ears, but our camera audio captured a clear, intelligent vocal response immediately following the whistle.
No fake apps. No manufactured scares. Just the raw, documented reality of a night inside one of Indiana's most active locations.
