📘 Want to master every CDL maneuver? Get my complete guide here: https://backing-playbook.netlify.app/... Welcome to Driving Truck Tips! In this video, you'll learn how to back a tractor-trailer into a parking spot at a truck stop, broken down step by step with clear visual reference points. Whether you're a CDL student, a new driver facing your first full truck stop, an instructor looking for a visual aid, or simply curious about how truckers handle this maneuver, this tutorial walks you through the setup with the spot on your driver's side, pulling up at an angle, backing slowly with your hazards on, following the trailer in, getting out to look halfway in and straightening it into the spot, plus the common mistake of leaving a drift alone until the trailer hits the next truck. You'll also see the 5 phases behind every backing maneuver, P.A.C.E.R. (Position, Angle, Chase, Even out, Recover). Once you know them, every maneuver starts to look the same. ⏱️ Steps: 0:00 Step 1: Keep the open spot on your driver's side and drive along the row to it 0:17 Step 2: Turn right, then pull up until your rig sits at about 45° to the spot 0:33 Step 3: Hazards on, back up slowly until your tail faces the truck beside the spot 0:46 Step 4: Turn the wheel right until it stops 0:56 Step 5: Steer left and follow the trailer in until you are halfway into the spot 1:18 Step 6: Halfway in, Get Out And Look (G.O.A.L.) until both sides are clear 1:34 Step 7: Straighten the wheel and back in slowly until your tail nears the back line 1:45 Summary ⚠️ Disclaimer: This video is for educational and training purposes only. It is meant as a general reference and does not guarantee a passing result on any CDL skills test. Backing procedures can vary by state, driving school, company policy, vehicle, and truck stop layout. Parking at a truck stop is not a CDL skills test exercise. The angle and reference points shown are one way to set up, not a fixed rule; some carriers prefer pull-through spots to avoid backing at all. Watch for pedestrians, back slowly, get out and look as often as you need, and use a spotter when one is available. Always follow your CDL instructor's guidance, your company's rules and your local regulations. © Copyright Notice: This video is the original work of Driving Truck Tips.
