08:10:2026 CE 8 October 2026 CE Axioms concerning Imkān al-Kadhib Axiom I — Subject of the Controversy. The controversy concerns the theological proposition termed Imkān al-Kadhib امڪان الڪذبthe theoretical possibility or Contingency Per Se الامڪان الذاتيof falsehood—not the assertion that falsehood actually الامڪان الوقوعي occurs in the Divine speech. Axiom II — Theoretical Possibility الامڪان اکذاتي Distinguished from Actual Occurrence الوقوع بالفعل. A distinction must be maintained between what is considered mumkin in abstract theological discourse and what is actually affirmed of the Divine. The discussion of theoretical possibility doth not, of itself, constitute an attribution of actual falsehood. Axiom III — Omnipotence and Truthfulness. The question principally concerns the relation between Divine omnipotence فدرة الباري and صدق الباري Divine truth قدرة الباري Divine omnipotence must not be confused with the assertion that every conceivable act is actually performed. Axiom IV — Divine Truth صدق الباري. The Divine is characterised by truthfulness; hence the affirmation of ṣidq does not depend upon the occurrence of any particular contingent act, but belongs to the theological determination of the Divine. Axiom V — No Necessary Implication of Disrespect. A technical discussion of Imkān al-Kadhib, when properly qualified, doth not in itself entail disrespect towards the Divine, nor does it necessarily imply the attribution of defect to the Divine. Axiom VI — Theological Terminology Requires Precision. The terms imkān, qudrah, ṣidq, and kadhib must be distinguished according to their technical theological senses; otherwise a theoretical proposition may erroneously be construed as an assertion concerning actual Divine conduct. Axiom VII — Nature of the Bans Barelvi Objections. The objections addressed in the lecture are directed against the theological formulation associated with certain Deobandi scholars, particularly concerning the alleged implications of Imkān al-Kadhib. Axiom VIII — Defence of the Ahlussunnah Deobandi Position. The lecture endeavours to defend the classical Deobandi formulation by adducing textual evidence, theological distinctions, and precedential discussions among earlier scholars. Axiom IX — Allegations of Deviation Require Proof. An allegation that a theological formulation constitutes blasphemy, disrespect, or doctrinal deviation cannot properly be established merely by the wording of an abstract proposition; its technical meaning and intended implication must first be determined. Axiom X — Principal Methodological Principle. The controversy is therefore to be examined by distinguishing theoretical possibility, actual occurrence, Divine omnipotence, and Divine truthfulness, lest one theological category be illicitly inferred from another.
