Science Can't Explain Why Prehistoric Humans Did These 10 Weird Things
You are crouching at the mouth of Drachenloch Cave, Switzerland, and the year is 1917. The air here is thin, biting, and cold, carrying the mineral smell of wet limestone mixed with something older, something that has no modern name. You are at 2,445 metres above sea level, a height that makes every breath feel like a small act of effort, and the mountain around you feels indifferent to your presence in a way that is genuinely unsettling. Archaeologist Emil Bächler has led you here, into the darkness, with nothing but lamplight pushing back the black. The cave floor is uneven beneath your boots, slick in places, and the passage narrows until the walls are close enough to touch on both sides simultaneously. Then the lamplight catches something ahead, something geometric and deliberate, something that has no business existing inside a mountain at this altitude.
