We’re expected to learn faster and more, to develop throughout our lives, to work longer, and to embrace change with an open mind. AI and digitalization are currently the major catalysts for transformation. The debate often revolves around the question of which technologies will change the way we work. To me, however, a more important question for society is this: What are we investing in the people who are supposed to shape this change—and I mean all people, not just those who already have a head start?
Continuing education, good health, fair working conditions, time for learning, and a workplace where everyone can contribute and develop their full potential—these prerequisites are not primarily cost factors. They are the key to social and economic return on investment. Every euro invested pays off in employability, productivity, innovation, participation, and quality of life.
But when does this investment turn into new pressure for constant self-improvement? Who is taken into account in this investment—and who gets left behind? And who bears responsibility for this?
The keynote asks: Is investing in people our greatest asset for the future of work, or is it in danger of becoming the next tool for exclusion and burden? Is this world of work truly designed for everyone?
