WINDS OF ANDALUSIA by Katrina Penman (2026)

World Premiere. Performed by the composer at the National Flute Association Convention in Portland, Oregon (USA) on 7th August 2026, with the US Air Force Band of the Golden West conducted by Capt. Brian O'Donnell. "Winds of Andalusia" is performed here for the first time as a work for solo flute and wind ensemble. It has been developed by the composer from an earlier work written for flute and piano, and contains references to the folklore of the Andalusia region of Spain, such as the rhythms or harmonies of the Soleá, Rumba, Malagueña and Nana. The flute part contains techniques such as harmonics and color trills to evoke some typical instrumental styles.
