Who’s Nalasopara’s Biggest Celebrity? | Musafiri with Richa Chadha | S1E3

From the ancient Buddhist sites of Nalasopara to the bustling workshops of Dharavi, Mumbai holds stories of how history continues to shape the present. Once a thriving port known as Sopara, Nalasopara connected India to global trade and became an important centre for Buddhism, yet its archaeological heritage remains largely overlooked. In this episode of Musafiri, Richa Chadha explores the legacy of Emperor Ashoka, Nalasopara’s Buddhist stupas, and the enduring influence of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Her journey takes her into Dharavi, where she meets designer Sudhir Rajbhar to examine the intersections of caste, craftsmanship, and identity. Through conversations about traditional leatherworking, recycling, and the struggles of local artisans, Richa explores what gets preserved, what gets erased, and who gets to shape the future.
