Teenager arrested after 6-year-old girl stabbed at Umhlali school

The teenager arrested for the stabbing a 6-year-old girl in a classroom in Umhlali, north of the Durban, was arrested earlier this year in connection with an incident at a Ballito mall. The police say the 16-year-old locked the door of the classroom of a learning centre at an Umhlali church, preventing the teacher and children from leaving. He then allegedly stabbed the girl several times, before trying to flee. He was arrested on the scene on charges of attempted murder and assault. The police confirmed that the teenager was previously arrested for intimidation after an improvised device was placed at a mall's food court in March.
