What is Uduli?
Uduli is a part of a traditional Xhosa wedding ceremony, involving the process of accompanying the bride to her husband’s home, where she is welcomed by her new family.
Traditionally, uduli is about more than just the bride’s arrival at her husband’s home. It carries the meaning of welcoming the bride, bringing families together, and honouring customs that have been passed down from generation to generation.
According to the traditional practices shared in this vlog, uduli includes welcoming the bride, stepping into the enkundleni (the traditional yard), being fed amasi (fermented milk), being introduced to the local community, and livestock offerings associated with the occasion. The bride’s family also plays an important role in accompanying her on this journey.
Traditions may vary between families, regions, and the ways ceremonies are practised today. This vlog therefore shares our personal experience rather than presenting one specific way as the only way every family should follow.

______________________________________________________
There is something deeply sentimental about looking back at these moments and realising that they are now memories we will carry for the rest of our lives.
Behind every outfit, every preparation, every journey and every gathering of family, there were emotions and details that photographs alone could never fully explain. Some moments were joyful, some were overwhelming, and others were simply too precious not to document.
I have chosen to share these intimate parts of our journey because I know that someone, somewhere, may be preparing for their own uMendiso and wondering what to expect, what certain traditions mean, or how everything comes together.
If sharing our experience helps even one person feel more informed, reassured or connected to their roots, then opening this part of our lives to you has been worthwhile.
Our traditions are precious, but so are the stories behind them. I hope that by documenting ours, we contribute in our own small way to preserving these memories, celebrating our Xhosa heritage and giving future generations something meaningful to look back on.
Thank you for being here, for watching with open hearts, and for allowing us to share a little piece of our family with you. ❤️
Enkosi ngokuhamba nathi kolu hambo. Masizigcine izithethe zethu, sabelane ngolwazi, size sizidlulisele nakwizizukulwana ezizayo. 🥹❤️
