Bedrock Session is a rock-leaning remix of "Soft Stones", an ambient piece I first wrote in November 2019. About the visuals: Every frame was calculated by a custom renderer written from scratch in Python with NumPy, which Claude (Anthropic) wrote and ran under my direction. Every image is made of one single material: thin lines traced as the contours of an invisible flow field, bending around grains, rivers and ridges. Several families of lines are nested one inside the other, so the camera can travel from a millimetre to a landscape without ever cutting. Each beat sends a ripple through the field, followed by echoes bouncing left and right like a stereo delay. The sequencer moves small glints along the lines, one step at a time. The explosion is a simulation of 160,000 particles pushed by the drums, which later fall back onto the strata as the sub-bass returns. Finally, each frame goes through a film treatment: depth of field, motion blur, halation around highlights, soft bloom and grain. 5,316 frames, rendered one by one at 24 fps.
