Gravel cycling from Edinburgh to Penicuik, following NCR 1 and NCR 196 through Musselburgh, along the River Esk, then onwards via Dalkeith and smaller Midlothian settlements. The route is mostly on traffic-free cycle paths, riverside paths and quiet paved sections, with only a very small amount of riding on roads.
