Our Son’s First Day of Senior Year… Then a 7.4 Earthquake Hit Colombia

What started as one of the happiest days of the year quickly became a day we’ll never forget. Our son started his final year of school here in Colombia, and we began the day celebrating this huge milestone as a family. Then everything changed. A massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, turning an ordinary morning into chaos. In this vlog, we take you along as the day unfolds and document what we witnessed firsthand — including collapsed buildings, damaged neighborhoods and some of the first glimpses of the devastation left behind. The building you see in the thumbnail collapsed right next to where we were. This isn’t a news report from thousands of miles away. This is what the aftermath looked and felt like from the ground, through the eyes of a family living here in Colombia. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, the families who lost loved ones, those still searching for family members, and the emergency crews and ordinary Colombians working through the devastation.
