First International Day Against Nuclear Tests marked at UNON - 2026

On 2 September 2026, UN Office at Nairobi (UNON) and the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Kenya marked the first International Day Against Nuclear Tests under the theme" Humanitarian and Ecological Consequences of Nuclear weapons use and Testing", reflecting on the 35th anniversary of the Semipalatinsk Test site closure, the 81st anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the 21st anniversary of the Central Asia Nuclear -weapon-Free zone Treaty.
