While the world watched Normandy, the Red Army destroyed Germany's most important army group in three weeks. Few in the West ever heard about it. In June 1944, as Allied forces fought through the hedgerows of Normandy, the Soviet Union launched Operation Bagration — the largest and most devastating offensive of the Second World War. In just a few weeks, the Red Army annihilated German Army Group Centre, destroying 28 of its 34 divisions, inflicting roughly 400,000 casualties, and wiping out nearly 88% of its armor. It remains one of the most catastrophic defeats in German military history — and one of the least remembered in the West. This documentary tells the story of that collapse: the Soviet deception campaign (maskirovka) that convinced Hitler the real blow would fall in Ukraine, Hitler's rigid "fortified places" order that turned entire cities into death traps, and the battles at Vitebsk, Orsha, Mogilev, and Bobruisk that tore Army Group Centre apart. We follow the fall of Field Marshal Ernst Busch, the desperate arrival of Walter Model, the encirclement of Minsk, and the Red Army's drive to the gates of Warsaw — the offensive that shattered the Eastern Front and sealed Nazi Germany's fate, even as the world's attention stayed fixed on the beaches of France. If you're interested in how the Eastern Front shaped the outcome of WW2, you'll also want to watch our coverage of D-Day and the Warsaw Uprising — together they tell the full story of the summer that broke Nazi Germany on two fronts at once. #OperationBagration #WW2History #EasternFront #MilitaryHistory #WWIIDocumentary Photo Credits By Sylwester Braun - Jan Tarczynski (1994) Pojazdy Armii Krajowej w Powstaniu Warszawskim, Warsaw: WKthttp://powstanie-warszawskie-1944.ac...., Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index... 📌 DISCLAIMER: This documentary is produced for educational and historical purposes.
