How can indigenous fruit trees contribute to healthier diets, better livelihoods and more resilient agricultural landscapes? In northern Ghana, the Fruitiers Locaux (Indigenous Fruit Trees) project is promoting the cultivation of improved local fruit species, including baobab, jujube and tamarind. Through grafting superior varieties and accessions, the project is helping communities produce high-quality planting material and establish mother blocks that can provide improved grafted seedlings for wider planting. The initiative is implemented by CSIR-FORIG and CIFOR-ICRAF, with World Bank funding and coordinated by CORAF under the FSRP. In this video, Sunkari KAMBE, a farmer from northern Ghana, shares his experience and perspective on the initiative. From improved planting material to more productive indigenous fruit trees, the project is investing in locally adapted solutions for the future of Ghana’s food systems. #CORAF #FSRPWA #Ghana #IndigenousFruitTrees #ClimateSmartAgriculture #WorldBank
