In US Appeals case 86, a boat touched the pin of a finish line to avoid contact with another boat overlapped outside of them. They then did a penalty turn and crossed the finish line a second time. After being exonerated for hitting the mark, they asked to be re-scored based on their first crossing of the finish line.
Note: this video was recorded against the 2021-2024 rules, and the title says so on purpose. The answer is unchanged under the 2025-2028 rules, but three citations have moved. Redress is now rule 61, not rule 62; redress decisions are at rule 61.4(b), and the four conditions are now five, at 61.4(b)(1) to (5). US Sailing has retired the Question label, so Question 86 is now Appeal 86. The video also mentions rule 18.2(b), which is rule 18.2(a)(1) today, and rule 18.2(b) now covers when mark-room ends. Everything else in the on-screen list is unchanged: rules 18, 31, 43 and 44 all still say what the video says they say.
