In this video, I explain how to read and understand a company’s Balance Sheet using Bajaj Auto’s annual report as a live example. We go through the different line items and understand what they actually mean from an investor’s perspective.
The video starts with the asset side of the Balance Sheet, covering Property, Plant & Equipment, Capital Work in Progress, Intangible Assets, Goodwill, Investments, Loans, Deferred Tax Assets and other non-current and current assets.
We then move to the liabilities side and understand Equity, Reserves, Non-Controlling Interest, Borrowings, Lease Liabilities, Provisions, Trade Payables and other financial liabilities. I also explain why certain numbers appear on both sides of the Balance Sheet and how they are connected to the underlying business.
The key focus throughout the video is on how to analyse a Balance Sheet without getting overwhelmed by every small number. We also look at the Notes to Accounts and why investors should pay more attention to the larger line items when analysing a company.
If you are learning fundamental analysis or want to get better at reading annual reports and financial statements, this video will help you understand how to approach a Balance Sheet in a much simpler way.
