He Lured a Circus Bear With Biscuits | The Repair Shop UK | S5 E20

A policeman, a circus bear, and a packet of biscuits. That’s just the start. In this moving episode of The Repair Shop, a 1954 scrapbook about “Goldilocks” policeman Stanley — famed for trying custard creams and ginger snaps to coax an escaped bear — is painstakingly saved, page by fragile page. A Navy-made British Racing Green clockwork train, built by an electrical artificer and silent for decades, is coaxed back into motion with ingenious micro repairs and careful paint conservation. And a battered 1950s school bureau that carried a boy through his 11-plus is rebuilt to stand proud again, its original leather preserved — every scratch a story. See how heritage craft, from bookbinding to precision mechanics and French polishing, quietly revives family history without erasing it. The surprises are in the details — from a snapped needle to a tiny brass whistle — but the biggest reveal is what these objects mean to the people who kept them. Watch to the end to feel the click, the turn, and the moment memory comes alive. #TheRepairShop #Restoration #CircusBear #ClockworkTrain #Bookbinding #Woodworking #HeritageCrafts
