After graduating high school, I had a short but impactful journey.
I moved out of my parent's house when I was 18. I wouldn’t say I moved into a ‘better situation’ because I went all the way up to Alaska to live on a Floating Processing Vessel.
Instead of going back to shore, fishing boats could come to our floating barge to unload crab, cod, and herring. That was my smelly first home after leaving my parents. Eventually I moved back to my hometown, and lived in a garage with my cousin. Somehow I was still sort of smelly. Eventually I left my hometown to go to college and ended up in a house with 7 other guys in Spokane. All this to say, I started getting comfortable making my own schedule, doing what I want to do, getting along with the guys…but not compelled to communicate my every move to others or work together with someone else.
Then I got married. My way of life had to look different. I wasn’t a bachelor anymore. I could no longer walk in the ways of the bachelor, doing laundry (maybe) when I felt like it. Eating whatever and whenever I wanted or doing what I wanted to, day or night.
Since I was married, I needed to walk in a new way of life. The old man was gone, the new man had come.
This is a parallel of our walk with Christ. In Ephesians 4, Paul urges us to no longer walk the way we used to. When we know Christ, we walk differently. This Sunday we unpack where we were, where we are, and where we are going. Let’s walk in this together!
