I saw another video about tanking Simon, but I was frustrated when I couldn’t get it to work for myself - mostly because they didn't show their full setup! So, I set out to make my own definitive guide. Minimal lumina, nothing hidden. In this video, I showcase the full build and a minimum-setup strategy to beat Simon on Expert mode with ZERO dodges and ZERO parries. THE PHASE 2 SPEED MATH: Phase 2 Simon has a massive 6,496 Speed. After accounting for Greater Rush and Greater Slow, that is the equivalent of 2,599 Speed. With 2,093 Speed on Lune, Simon only gets an extra turn on the party once in a while - and this setup is built to manage that. THE TURN-BY-TURN STRATEGY: Lune: Typhoon on Turn 1 ➔ Ice Lance on Turn 2 Maelle: Guard Down on Turn 1 ➔ Égide on Turn 2 Monoco: Match the Beast Wheel to build up your Sidaro buff stacks DEBUFFS: The key to this strategy is massive debuff-stacking. Ice Lance inflicts Greater Slow, Guard Down inflicts Greater Defenceless, and two of Monoco's skills inflict Greater Powerless. Use free aim shots whenever you have spare AP to constantly inflict Burn and Mark on Simon. Each party member has Enfeebling Mark and Stay Marked, so as long as he's marked on his turn, he does 30% less damage. CRITICAL: Once Simon gets close to 30% HP, use Break Point to completely skip Phase 3! THE CHARACTER BUILDS: MAELLE (The Ultimate Tank): With Defensive Stance, Defensive Mode, and Shell active, she reduces Simon's damage enough to survive absolutely anything he throws. Pair this with Healing Burn and Effective Heal, and she regains 50% of her max HP every turn she hits a free aim shot while Simon is burning. LUNE (The Core Support): By equipping Protecting Heal, Accelerating Heal, Longer Shell, and Longer Rush, every single time she hits with Typhoon, she grants the entire party Shell and Protect for 3 turns (Greater Rush and Greater Shell are required). Add Energising Heal, Energising Rush, and Energising Shell to make Typhoon grant each party member +3 AP with each hit. Monoco (The Damage Dealer): Sidaro grants Monoco 30% increased damage per Upgraded Skill used. It resets on using a non-Upgraded Skill, but not normal attacks or gradient attacks. So the plan for the first part of the fight is to get as many stacks on him as possible before Simon gets to 30% HP. To that end, it's better to fail the QTEs for Monoco's attacks to have more time to build Sidaro stacks. It's important that Monoco's skills all do 1 hit, so that when Simon is double-marked, they only remove one of the marks. That's why Eveque Spear and Ballet Charm are used to inflict Powerless. Ramasseur Bonk and Gault Fury are just there to maintain the mark and continue building Sidaro buffs. Either can be replaced with another mask skill that does one hit, or a basic attack if you're ok with skipping a turn of buff stacking. THE ONLY DANGEROUS ATTACK: Watch out for "Simon attacks at light speed." Because this is an AoE attack, it's the only move that Maelle can't completely guard. If it kills anyone: Revive them immediately with a Revive Tint or Maelle's Phoenix Flame. If the party health gets dangerously low: Heal up with Lune's Tree of Life. She can take one round off to cast it before she needs to get back to the Typhoon loop. TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Battle 7:35 - Dying to the Light Speed AoE 15:05 - Healing from the Light Speed AoE 20:00 - Break Point 20:22 - Complete Character Build Showcase (Gear & Lumina) I use the Enhanced Descriptions mod to clarify what pictos, weapons, and skills do.
