BUT I FORGIVE YOU Part II — I Forgive Myself [rebellious country hip-hop and rock] [INTRO — SOFT ACOUSTIC GUITAR] If you never forgive me... That's alright. I spent too long waiting for you to understand me. Waiting for you to see that I wasn't the person you remembered. But I've learned something... Sometimes closure doesn't come from the other person. Sometimes... you have to give it to yourself. I remember every word, Every scar beneath the skin, Every night I asked myself, "How the hell did we get here again?" I tried to say I'm sorry, Tried to own the things I'd done, But somewhere in the aftermath We both forgot where we'd begun. You carried anger like a weapon, I carried guilt like a chain, Two broken people throwing fire Back and forth inside the rain. And I could've stayed there forever, Let the bitterness take control, But I finally realized Your hatred wasn't mine to hold. So if you never forgive me... That's alright. And if you still remember every wrong I did that night, I won't tell you to forget it, I won't tell you you're wrong, I won't pretend that what happened didn't hurt us all along. But I forgive you. Yeah, I forgive you too. Not because what happened was okay, Not because I deserved what you put me through. I forgive you... Because I won't carry your darkness into everything I do. Kids being groomed, Women being raped in the UK, And somehow people argue like the victims got no say. How the hell'd we get so numb? How'd compassion disappear? Everybody screaming politics while suffering's happening here. Got corporations wearin' capitalism's name, While politicians redraw the rules of the game, Heart of America ran by a commie— What a damn shame. Everybody's got a banner, Everybody's got a side, Everybody's got an echo chamber where they go to hide. Propaganda in the bloodstream, Division on the screen, Everybody fighting everybody over what the labels mean. But I'm too busy waking up, Too busy seeing through the smoke, Too busy standing with the broken, Too busy learning how to grow. You can keep your tribal warfare, Keep your hatred and your blame— I'm not letting somebody else's anger become the person that I am. And I won't call you evil just because you wounded me. I won't become the thing I hated just because you couldn't see. We're both more than our worst moments. We're both more than what went wrong. And I'm finally learning I don't have to carry this along. So if you never forgive me... That's alright. You don't have to open that door, You don't have to change your mind. You don't have to accept my apology, You don't have to understand my growth. But you don't own my future, And you don't control my soul. I forgive you. Yeah, I forgive you too. Not because the pain was nothing, Not because I deserved what you put me through. I forgive you... Because I'm done letting yesterday decide what tomorrow gets to do. I've already stared death in the face. And I chose life. I stood at the edge of everything I thought I was... And somehow... I stepped back. Not because the world suddenly became easy. Not because everyone suddenly became good. But because I finally understood— My life belongs to me. Your anger doesn't own it. Your hatred doesn't own it. My mistakes don't own it. My past doesn't own it. I do. So wherever you are... I hope you find peace. I hope someday you don't need the anger anymore. I hope you can put the weapon down. And if you can't... That's alright too. That's your road. I've got mine. I won't chase you down it. I won't drag you back. I won't ask you to forgive me. I'll simply keep walking. If you never forgive me... That's alright. I've forgiven myself and I'm finally seeing the light. And if you still hate me, I'll leave that where it belongs. I won't answer hate with hate. I won't carry it along. But I forgive you. Yeah, I forgive you too. Not because what happened was okay. Not because what you did didn't hurt. But because I refuse to become your pain. I refuse to carry your darkness. I refuse to let yesterday bury tomorrow. [OUTRO — ACOUSTIC GUITAR / SPOKEN] You don't have to accept my apology. You don't have to understand my growth. You don't have to forgive me. But you don't own my future. I've already stared death in the face... And I chose life. And after everything... I'm finally free. I forgive myself. And now... I forgive you.
