Onjekese Engira is a song of journey, memory, and the longing for home. As the sun sets over Banda, the crickets sing, shadows gather beneath the tamarind tree, and the road stretches into the night. Through the darkness, a familiar voice brings reassurance. By morning, sunlight returns and the songs of the ancestors lead the traveler toward home.
Banda is an ancient Busoga principality, and the site of the Battle of Hatumba Banja in the first half of the nineteenth century, when a combined force of the Be'Banda, Basamia and Basoga defeated the forces of Buganda's Kabaka Kamanya, commanded by Ssewankambo.
Sung in Lusamia.
