Queen Victoria Market Melbourne Full Walking Tour 4K 2026

I gave myself 3 hours at Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne with no plan, no map and no agenda. Just me, my camera and whatever pulled me in. This is everything I found. Queen Victoria Market has been trading since 1878. That is 148 years of fresh produce, handmade goods, street food and real Melbourne life all happening under one roof. It is the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere, sitting across 7 hectares and 2 full city blocks. Locals call it Queen Vic. And once you visit, you will understand why it has survived while everything around it has changed. In this walking tour I take you through every section of the market. We start at the fresh produce sheds where farmers and grocers have been setting up since before sunrise. The colour, the noise, the smell of fresh herbs and citrus in the cool autumn air — it hits you immediately. Then we move through the Deli Hall where you will find some of the best cured meats, cheeses, olives and continental goods in Melbourne, all from independent traders who have been here for generations. We stop at Market Lane Coffee, one of Melbourne's most respected specialty roasters. Single origin beans, roasted fresh, brewed to order. There is always a queue and it is always worth it. Then there is Mörk Chocolate in the Dairy Produce Hall. A Swedish couple moved to Melbourne in 2012 and decided Australia needed better drinking chocolate. Now they are iconic. I ordered the Campfire Hot Chocolate — dark chocolate, wood fire smoke and charcoal salt — and they blowtorch the marshmallow right in front of you. It is as good as it sounds. We also walk through the general merchandise area, the clothing and souvenirs section, and I show you how to get here on foot from Melbourne Central Station in under 7 minutes using Exit 3 on Elizabeth Street. No tram needed, no ticket required if you do take the tram since it sits inside Melbourne's free tram zone. Queen Vic is not just a market. It is a Melbourne ritual. It is where the city shops, eats, meets and breathes. If you are visiting Melbourne for the first time, this is your starting point. If you are a local, come see it through fresh eyes.
