In 1776 San Francisco was sand dunes, grassland and a small Spanish presidio. Watch the Gold Rush turn a village of a few hundred people into a city of 25,000 in a single year, the shoreline push out over Yerba Buena Cove, the great 1906 earthquake and fire wipe out 28,000 buildings, and the city rise again with the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, the Transamerica Pyramid and Salesforce Tower.
Every building comes from San Francisco's own records and appears in the year it was built. A live counter tracks the city's tallest building, from the Palace Hotel to Salesforce Tower.
