Video by Passionflower chapter. Nancy presented this same topic to Cuplet Fern chapter earlier this year. Please join Nancy Bissett as she discusses an interesting topic that few programs go in-depth on: grasses, rushes, and sedges. Nancy will describe and delineate common selections used in the landscaping- some may appeal to you so much, that you will consider them for your yard as well! Restoration ecologist, botanist, and horticulturist Nancy Bissett graduated from Florida Southern College (summa cum laude), with a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture and botany, June 1980. She and her husband, Bill, co-founded The Natives in 1982. Nancy serves as a consultant, designs and installs upland restoration projects, assists on research projects, monitors and surveys vegetation in central Florida, performs rare plant surveys, and assists and advises on horticultural operations. Nancy has developed techniques for restoring many upland communities including scrub, sandhill, and flatwoods that include site preparation, planting, direct-seeding native groundcovers, and weed control. She has developed and enacted direct seeding projects for state and local agencies, water management districts, mitigation banks, mined lands, developers, and corporations. As a botanist she has assisted with monitoring research projects for The Nature Conservancy, Florida Institute of Phosphate Research, and others. She has performed various rare plant and vegetation surveys, and also helped federal, state, and local authorities find and evaluate rare plant communities. As the developer of The Natives nursery, Nancy has experimented with the propagation and growth of many natives plants, including grasses, wildflowers, and rare species. #floridagrasses #andropogon #nancybissette
