Another update in my series documenting the redevelopment of Crossings at 345, the former YMCA building on Main Street in Norwich, Connecticut. This video was recorded on October 25, 2026. For decades this building was a gathering place for the city, with indoor athletic facilities, two pools, offices, and a rooming house for men. The YMCA closed suddenly in April 2009, and the building sat vacant for years. It deteriorated and became one of the most visible blighted properties at the gateway to downtown Norwich. The turnaround began when the city took ownership of the property and sold it to Mattern Construction of Baltic. The project is funded in part by a $2 million state Community Challenge grant and $400,000 in federal American Rescue Plan money from the city. An environmental cleanup was completed before construction began, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2023. Original plans called for demolishing the rear portion of the building and keeping a horseshoe-shaped structure, with commercial space and a restaurant on the site. This update shows the building and site as they appeared on October 25, 2026, continuing the visual record of the project from the earlier videos in this series. If you have memories of the Norwich YMCA, such as swimming lessons, basketball games, or pool parties, please share them in the comments. I’m documenting this project as a historical record of one of Norwich’s most recognizable buildings. 📍 Location: Crossings at 345 (former YMCA), Main Street, Norwich, CT 📅 Filmed: October 25, 2026 🎥 Camera: DJI Osmo Pocket 3 🎵 Music: “High Class” by Benjamin Andrews #CrossingsAt345 #NorwichCT #FormerYMCA #Norwich #Connecticut #Redevelopment #ConstructionUpdate #NorwichHistory #DowntownNorwich
