Reverend Insanity Was Banned for 7 Years… But Something Changed

Was Reverend Insanity really banned by China? For years, the story repeated throughout the fandom has been simple: Reverend Insanity was banned in 2019, Fang Yuan's story was cut short, and there was little hope that Gu Zhen Ren would ever be allowed to finish it. But when you actually examine the surviving Chinese government notices, Qidian's actions, Gu Zhen Ren's own statements, Yuewen's treatment of the author, WebNovel, Bilibili Manga, and the developments that followed… the situation becomes much more complicated. And in 2026, something changed. Gu Zhen Ren stated that his long-running effort to “save the tree” had achieved what he described as a positive phased result — something readers could potentially see during 2026. So what actually happened to Reverend Insanity? Was the novel nationally banned by the Chinese government? Was Gu Zhen Ren himself blacklisted? Why is he now publishing on Qidian again? Why did Yuewen later honor him as one of its “Twelve Heavenly Kings”? Why is the official English version of Reverend Insanity still available on WebNovel? And most importantly… Could Fang Yuan's journey finally continue? In this video, I investigate the evidence behind one of the biggest mysteries surrounding Reverend Insanity. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 IN THIS VIDEO • The 2018–2019 crackdown on Chinese web novels • What happened to Qidian in May 2019 • What Chinese government notices actually say • What they DON'T say about Reverend Insanity • Gu Zhen Ren's own explanation of the封禁 • Why the author clearly did not abandon the novel • His return to Qidian with Xian Gong Kai Wu • Yuewen's 2024 “Twelve Heavenly Kings” recognition • The Silver Award received by Xian Gong Kai Wu • Reverend Insanity's official WebNovel page • The licensed Bilibili Manga catalog • Gu Zhen Ren's “save the tree” strategy • The 2026 “phased result” statement • What a realistic Reverend Insanity return could look like ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⚠️ IMPORTANT This video does NOT claim that Reverend Insanity has officially been unbanned. There is currently no confirmed Chapter 2335, official continuation date, or public announcement restoring the original novel on mainland Qidian. The goal of this video is to separate documented evidence from fandom rumors and explain what Gu Zhen Ren's recent statements actually tell us. Hope Gu is alive. But the refinement is not complete yet. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📚 MAIN SOURCES & REFERENCES • National Press and Publication Administration / “Sweep Away Pornography and Illegal Publications” — 2018 Online Literature Special Rectification Campaign • Cyberspace Administration of China — September 2018 report on the online-literature cleanup • Shanghai Cyberspace Administration — May 2019 summons and rectification of Qidian • Qidian's May 2019 anti-vulgarity self-inspection and platform cleanup • National Press and Publication Administration — July 2019 summons of twelve online-literature companies, including Qidian • Gu Zhen Ren — Preface to Infinite Bloodcore discussing the封禁 of Reverend Insanity and his intention to finish the story • Qidian — Xian Gong Kai Wu official page and Honors Hall • Yuewen / Qidian — 2024 Twelve Heavenly Kings recognition • Prince Kung's Palace Museum / Ministry of Culture and Tourism — Second “Yuejian Intangible Cultural Heritage” Writing Competition results • WebNovel — Official Reverend Insanity English catalog, 2,334 chapters • Bilibili Manga — Official 蛊真人 / Reverend Insanity comic catalog • Gu Zhen Ren interviews and public statements regarding his attempt to “save the tree” • April 2026 Qidian author note and timestamped community reproductions concerning the reported “phased result” ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ If new official information appears regarding Reverend Insanity, Chapter 2335, Gu Zhen Ren, or the “save the tree” project, I may make a follow-up investigation.
