My Husband, the First Mate, Repainting Our 200-Ton River Cargo Ship Before Lunar New Year

Today I’m restoring my 200-ton river cargo ship before Lunar New Year. Before welcoming Tết, the ship must be cleaned, repaired and repainted. I open the paint cans, mix the red coating, connect the compressor, and spray the cargo hold using a pressure washer system. It’s hard work, but watching the old steel turn fresh and bright again makes everything worth it. Life on the river isn’t always easy. Maintenance is part of survival. If I take care of the ship, the ship takes care of me. By the end of the day, the cargo hold looks brand new — ready for another year on the river.
