Is there a Starbucks where you live? I checked all 197 countries to find where Starbucks has never opened, where it packed up and left, and where it only just arrived. Real sources, no guessing.
☕ 83 countries have Starbucks, from Seattle, where it was born in 1971, to Japan, its first market outside North America (1996).
❌ 112 countries have NO Starbucks, including:
🇪🇹 Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee: not a single café.
🇾🇪 Yemen, home of the port that gave "Mocha" its name.
🇭🇷 Croatia, 🇸🇮 Slovenia and all 3 Baltic states. Starbucks itself says it has "no plans" for Croatia or Slovenia.
🇳🇬 Nigeria, Africa's most populous country.
🇵🇰 Pakistan, even though neighboring India has 479+ stores.
🇻🇪 Venezuela, where a café copied the logo in 2021 and Starbucks said "not us".
🚪 2 countries where Starbucks LEFT:
🇷🇺 Russia (2022): 130 cafés became "Stars Coffee".
🇮🇱 Israel (2003): all 6 Tel Aviv stores closed after just 2 years.
🆕 7 countries that only just got Starbucks (2022–2026): 🇱🇦 Laos, 🇬🇾 Guyana, 🇵🇾 Paraguay, 🇪🇨 Ecuador, 🇭🇳 Honduras, 🇮🇸 Iceland and 🇬🇪 Georgia, the newest (July 2026).
😮 Surprises:
🇮🇹 Italy, the land of espresso, only got Starbucks in 2018.
🇿🇦 South Africa is the only Starbucks country south of the Sahara.
🇰🇿 Kazakhstan is the only one in Central Asia.
🇦🇺 Australia closed about 2/3 of its stores in 2008.
🇲🇨 Monaco once had the most Starbucks per person on Earth.
📊 Sourcing Starbucks company profile (January 2026, 89 markets), the Starbucks newsroom, licensees (Alshaya, Alsea, AmRest, Maxim's, Berjaya, Tata Starbucks), NPR, Euronews, Globes, World Coffee Portal and national press. Each country was checked against 2+ sources. Only sovereign countries are counted; territories like Puerto Rico, Hong Kong and Aruba are not shown. Status as of October 2026.
