Today we explore the historic town of Garachico, one of the most charming places in northern Tenerife. This walking tour begins directly inside the town instead of the famous El Caletón natural pools, which are currently closed due to strong Atlantic waves during the winter season. When conditions are calmer, these volcanic pools reopen and become one of the most popular swimming spots on the island. Garachico is a town full of history. Founded in 1496 by the Genoese banker Cristóbal de Ponte, it quickly became the most important port in Tenerife until the dramatic 1706 eruption of the Trevejo volcano, which destroyed much of the harbour with lava flows. Ironically, the same volcanic lava that destroyed the town also created one of its most famous attractions: the natural lava pools of El Caletón. During this walk you’ll discover: • The historic streets of Garachico • Traditional Canarian wooden balconies • The large central square of the town • The famous restaurant Silogia • Carnival celebrations taking place today • Atlantic coastal views and volcanic landscapes Garachico offers a completely different side of Tenerife compared to the busy beach resorts of the south. It’s the perfect place for a relaxed day trip if you want to experience the island’s history and authentic atmosphere. This video follows the Blomblaum philosophy — slow exploration, observing colours, architecture and everyday life while walking through real places.
