The legendary Czechoslovak bus Škoda 706 RTO hides interesting facts about its meaning, name and licensed production.
It was produced from 1958 to 1972 and is one of the icons of our transport.
Origin of the name and design
Meaning of the abbreviation: The designation RTO stands for frame trambus passenger (or reconstructed).
The number 706 indicated a chassis load capacity of 7 tons and a six-cylinder engine.
Origin from a truck: The car was technically based on the proven Škoda 706 RT truck.
Engine location: The unit was placed in the front next to the driver, which was already outdated for modern world buses of that time, but very reliable in our country.
