🎹 This TEMPUS Collection multimedia presentation is dedicated to Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, K. 466, performed and conducted from the piano by Maximianno Cobra with Europa Philharmonia.

Entered in Mozart’s own thematic catalogue on 10 February 1785 and premièred the following evening at Vienna’s Mehlgrube, K. 466 stands at the heart of Mozart’s mature Viennese concerto years. It is his only Piano Concerto in D Minor and one of only two minor-key concertos among the traditional 27.
The work expands the D-Minor Manifesto from the concentrated keyboard world of the Fantasia K. 397/385g into a public architecture of piano and orchestra. Its first movement is approached through thematic genesis: fragmented orchestral material, rhythmic stratification, harmonic pressure and intervallic relationships progressively prepare a principal theme that appears complete only with the piano.
The Romance in B-flat Major is examined through form, tonal colour and temporal proportion. Leopold Mozart’s 1786 instructions to Nannerl provide a rare historical document on tempo: the movement’s governing alla-breve Adagio must remain viable through its increasingly subdivided writing. For Maximianno Cobra’s TEMPUS Theory, tempo is not speed but “architecture in movement”.
The Finale continues the dialogue through return, variation, development, cadenza and a sustained D-Major Coda. Cobra performs Ludwig van Beethoven’s WoO 58 cadenzas in both outer movements, making historical transmission literally audible inside Mozart’s architecture.
The presentation also develops the Secret Curriculum: Bachian counterpoint, harmonic progression and the inherited freedom of the stylus fantasticus absorbed into Mozart’s Classical language. According to Maximianno Cobra, this historical continuity is understood through:
TRADITION — TRANSMISSION — TRANSITION
and, in its creative essence:
THE FLAME — THE FORCE — THE GENESIS
The past remains active through transmission, assimilation and transformation.
