How much room does a growing city leave for an ordinary life? Through narrow lanes, weathered doorways and newer buildings, this short documentary looks at the places where village life and urban change meet in China. Pipes, plants, parked cars and everyday belongings bring a large question down to a human scale: is there room to walk, to rest, and to feel at home? I am an observer here. These images cannot tell every resident's story. They can, however, make us look more closely at what we mean by progress—and what we hope a changing place will keep. English narration accompanies sounds recorded on location. No additional background music has been added.
