Goa’s political landscape is witnessing a significant shift ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The AAP–Goa Forward alliance, described as the “Goa First Alliance,” has chosen to chart a political course without the Congress. The alliance is positioning itself as a possible “first front” alternative in Goa’s emerging electoral battle. The development comes nearly five months before the Assembly elections and raises an important question: Is Goa heading towards a three-way political contest? The alliance brings together the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP), with both parties making it clear that they are not willing to enter into an alliance with the Congress at this stage. This decision could have significant implications for the Opposition vote and the larger contest against the BJP. Congress, meanwhile, has strongly criticised the move, questioning whether such an alliance could ultimately split the Opposition vote and benefit the BJP. The Congress has also questioned the political credibility and electoral objective of what it sees as an alternative front. But AAP and Goa Forward are pitching their alliance differently. Their argument is that Goa needs a political alternative that puts Goa’s interests first, rather than simply becoming part of an arrangement centred around Congress. With the BJP already a major force in the state, the Congress attempting to retain its Opposition space, and the AAP–GFP alliance seeking to establish a separate political front, Goa’s electoral equations could become increasingly complicated. Will this alliance strengthen the Opposition—or divide it? Can the Goa First Alliance emerge as a credible alternative for 2027? And most importantly, does Goa now face a three-way political contest? Watch this report for a detailed look at the alliance, Congress’s response, and what this new political equation could mean for Goa’s 2027 Assembly elections.
