"The Spurrlows Sing Ralph Carmichael Nashville Style" (Complete) (1976)

“The Spurrlows Sing Ralph Carmichael…Nashville Style” (the complete LP) features The Spurrlows, founded and directed by Thurlow Spurr. Originating in 1959, this group traveled widely, recorded numerous albums for Word Records, and were even sponsored by the Chrysler Corporation to promote drivers’ education and safety at high schools across the United States (3,000 shows over six years). And Ralph Carmichael created many of the group’s arrangements. In 1976, Ralph released an album on his Light Records label titled “The Spurrlows Sing Ralph Carmichael…Nashville Style.” Thurlow remembers: “I approached Ralph with the idea of this Nashville album, which was something a bit different. Ralph immediately said, ‘Let’s do it!’ It was such a fun album and Ralph even agreed to be on the cover with the singers!” Arranged by Buddy Skipper and Brad Kelly (not by Ralph), conducted by Bob MacKenzie and produced by Thurlow, the album is a wonderful collection of tunes all written by Ralph and performed in classic Spurrlows style, but with a country flavor: “Closer Than A Brother/No Greater Love,” “One of These Days,” “Why Have I Waited/The Savior Is Waiting,” “Love Is Surrender,” “I’m Gonna Go Back,” “Something Good Is Going to Happen to You,” “Reach Out to Jesus,” “Come on Home” and “Like A Lamb Who Needs the Shepherd.”
