Weekly Superintendent Address: Oct. 1, 2026

In this week's address, Superintendent Steve Carlson speaks to families in Naschitti and Newcomb affected by recent flooding. He also reviews Central Consolidated School District's 2025-2026 report card from the New Mexico Public Education Department. The results include an 82 percent graduation rate that tops the state average and two years of gains in reading and math proficiency, along with the work still ahead on proficiency and attendance. Full results for the district and every school are available at nmvistas.org. The Superintendent also recaps the fifth annual Equity Council Student Summit, where more than 120 middle and high school students built leadership skills and took part in advocacy workshops to bring back to their schools and families. He thanks the Intercultural and Community Outreach staff, UNITY, and the volunteers who made it possible. For those attending the Northern Navajo Fair in Shiprock, he asks everyone to honor the Yéʼii Bicheii ceremony by not photographing or recording the Yéʼii or any ceremonial activity. He also thanks everyone who helped move the fair's Elderfest to the Shiprock High School football facilities. For more district news and updates, visit centralschools.org.
