Arizona’s Best Trout Fishing | Brown Trout on Dry Flies

Fly fishing for brown trout in Northern Arizona made for some incredible dry fly action on this trip. We spent the day hiking and fishing a creek, catching brown after brown, including some over the 20-inch mark, despite some seriously strong wind. We knew the forecast before heading out, but we also knew the fishing could be worth it. The wind made casting and getting a good fly placement difficult, but when we got a fly into the right spot, the trout were quick to come up and eat. We fished dry flies the entire day using 5-weight rods and floating fly lines. Some fish hit almost immediately, while others slowly followed the fly before sipping it off the surface. Watching those eats in clear water was easily one of the best parts of the trip. A couple of larger brown trout made the day even better, including a few eats while we weren’t even paying attention. Tough conditions, lots of fish, and a day that was well worth the effort.
