as promised here's an explanation about Mia. Before I begin I must say I (unlawfully) pinched the audio from Ellie Mantel - however I did make her channel art so.. ;-) but it belongs to her so please ask her if you must use it!! Don't like mopey edity videos but the audio was too good to not use really. We now have a better idea of what's going on with her. We had the vet out for her legs after XC schooling (just concussion, as they went down within a couple of weeks). After chatting to him he thought she might have ulcers. She was scoped, found she DID have them, as I'd suspected for a long time. Whilst in he lunged her to check her legs (as we'd called him out for lameness so wanted to check). Found her to be unlevel behind and stiff through her back on one rein and wanted her back xrayed. Here they found her vertebrae to be borderline of kissing spine. They weren't actually touching at rest however with weight on they may well do. Vet didn't think this alone was severe enough to be causing her pain reactions but once I added up the signs, I felt this all made huge sense! So I pushed him to investigate it further. Last thursday he came to the yard and did nerve blocks on her spine. She was an absolute angel and i noticed a huge difference. However the vet still isn't convinced - and we now need to do some investigation on her bad hind leg to check there is nothing there causing compensation through her back (I personally think it's the other way around as she's only unlevel on the lunge, not when ridden. So I think the heavy work on a circle hurts her back and is causing her to compensate through her hind legs). But have to follow vets advice of course. If nothing comes up wrong with her leg then she's having surgery to cut the ligaments and nerves between her vertabrae which has a 2 month rehabilitation period - so will have no winter season whatsoever, but I don't care if it gets her sorted, poor thing!
